Frequently Asked Questions.

FAQs answered by Dr Akira

What conditions do you see?

Please enquire to see if you are suffering from a condition that I may be able to help with. My clinical interests have mainly been within Eating Disorders, however I have a wide variety of interests and generally very happy to see all mental health disorders. It may be useful to have a discussion with your GP to obtain a referral to have an appointment with me. I am an adult trained psychiatrist so would generally see patients who are adults or emerging adults.

Why are there charges to see you?

My consultation and treatment fees are in line with the typical fees within WA and AMA recommendations. Unfortunately, Medicare is unable to refund the full amount and there will be a gap fee for most consultations. Please note that Medicare rebates may vary and the price on the website may not always be fully accurate.

Why do you have a stethoscope on your picture?

Great question. Psychiatrists are firstly trained as medical doctors (aka physicians) and therefore we have the ability to also attend to one’s physical health. The stethoscope might come out once in a while if required! There’s great evidence showing that people with serious mental illnesses have a reduced life expectancy, mainly through poor lifestyle factors or side effect of medication. It is important that all psychiatrists are able to attend to your health needs holistically.
